Not to us.
At Sarasota Memorial, we speak spine repair, and that translates to the most advanced care and better outcomes for our patients.
Pronounced: “spon-de-lo-lis-thee-sis,” spondylolisthesis is a spinal disorder in which a vertebra slips forward onto the bone below it. It can be caused by injury or genetics, but is more often attributed to aging. Degenerative spondylolisthesis occurs when spinal bones and ligaments deteriorate over time and fail to maintain spinal alignment. Typically affecting the lumbar (lower) spine, the condition is more commonly diagnosed in people over 50 and is more frequent in women.
Sarasota Memorial’s spine specialists offer a wide range of treatments and therapies for degenerative spondylolisthesis, depending on severity (grade 1-5), prognosis, and the individual patient. Non-surgical options can include physical therapy, activity modification, ice/heat therapy, medications, and epidural steroid injections. Surgery is rare for this condition, but may be considered for patients with unmanageable, disabling pain or progressive neurologic deterioration.
Sarasota Memorial’s spine specialists are nationally recognized for their expertise in treating orthopedic joints and complex conditions of the spine, including degenerative spondylolisthesis.
